Best Practices for Productivity Projects - To implement, maintain and complete major projects.

I. PRE-PROJECT DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

Learn as much as possible about the product, process, people, and equipment  involved.

Brainstorm with suppliers, engineers, purchasing, product, marketing, human resources and any other personnel who will bring value to the development of the project.

II. ESTABLISH FINANCIAL CREDIBILITY

Estimate financial opportunity. Is it worth investigating?

III. TEAM BUILDING

Identify skills required to complete the project.

IV. UPFRONT PLANNING

Plan your project in detail and re-plan where changes occur. Then re-plan again. Thorough  planning saves time and effort in the long run.

V. MANAGEMENT

Assume the scope of your responsibilities is all-inclusive. Get commitments from others to take the tasks. Lead the team, utilize their resources and skills. Recognize and manage trade-off between perfection and completion date. Do not let time dictate-your actions, let your actions dictate timing.

VI. COMMUNICATION
Communicate as often and frequently as possible. Try not to assume anything. If you have to assume, then be sure to document and communicate all assumptions involved.

VII. CONTROL

You need to plan, direct, monitor, and control your program.

VIII. EXPEDIENCY
Don't put off tomorrow what you can do today.

IX. CLOSURE

Verify savings.
